Relief Supervisors. Whenever possible, Relief Supervisors shall be dispatched select by seniorityweekly monthly assignments of up to forty (40) hours shifts from all open 40 hour block vacancies. The selection will be made prior to the 15th of the previous month. Once the selection is made, it cannot be changed without the mutual agreement between the Employer and the Employee. The intent is to have the Relief Supervisor provide consistency at the same terminal for the entire week, knowing this might not always be possible. All Relief Supervisors will be scheduled forty (40) hours before any activated On-Call Supervisors. or Retired On-Call Supervisors are dispatched. When assigned to w ork at a terminal other than the Relief Supervisor’s home terminal, the Employer will make every effort to assign the Relief Supervisors in a way that evenly balances travel distance.

He will fall into slot currently being worked on return to his own shift. Relief Leads After one (1) week relief Leads will be moved to Lead Hands Overtime Procedures and will fall into slot currently being worked on return to his own shifts. Relief Leads shall not be used to deprive regular Leads of their normal overtime opportunities.
Relief Supervisors. When required by the Company, employees shall be offered the assignment of Relief Supervisor. Two of the main purposes of the Relief Supervisor position are:
Relief Supervisors. The parties recognize that bargaining unit employees may be used as Relief Supervisors for regular Supervisors off on vacations, illness, leave of absence, etc. For the duration of such relief assignments, employees will suffer no loss of seniority. Relief Supervisors will not be required to formally discipline employees.
Relief Supervisors. It is acknowledged that the position of relief supervisors is a non-bargaining position. The Company may appoint in its decision up to two (2) relief supervisors from the bargaining unit who shall perform the duties of shift supervisor in the absence of the shift supervisor. The relief supervisors shall hold Second (2nd) Class Operating Engineer Certificates and each relief supervisor shall receive the same rate of pay. Relief supervisors will continue to pay union dues. Relief supervisors have a duty to report incidents to supervisors but will not issue formal discipline. Relief supervisors are subject to Article 2.03 concerning bargaining unit work. The use of relief supervisors will not limit the ability of bargaining unit employees to take their vacation as scheduled.

Relief Supervisors. Relief Supervisors shall be used only to relieve Supervisors absent from the workplace for illness, vacation, or special meetings, or where there is no Supervisor, unless otherwise agreed to by the Union and the Company. No employee shall be required to work as a Relief Supervisor. Relief Supervisors shall be designated. In the event of overtime work at the end of a scheduled shift, and if they are not needed to work as a Relief Supervisor during the overtime period, they will not be exempt from any required overtime by virtue of having worked as a Relief Supervisor during the scheduled shift (in other words, if there are insufficient volunteers and their seniority would result in them being required to work the overtime, they must do so). Relief Supervisors may direct the work force but shall not discipline employees, except that they may send employees home for just cause. Discipline shall be referred to permanent Management. Supervisors and Relief Supervisors shall not perform bargaining unit work, except in cases of emergency. Except as provided above, Relief Supervisors shall be considered to be bargaining unit members for all purposes of the Collective Agreement. When an employee works as a Relief Supervisor, they shall be paid a premium of one ($1.00) dollar per hour for all hours so worked provided they perform a significant portion of the position they are relieving. The names of all Relief Supervisors so designated each day shall be posted in the immediate vicinity of the Supervisor’s station and noted on the work schedule.
