Release Time for Union Officers. 5.3.1 OC shall grant any requested one-year (July 1 to June 30) or half-year (July 1 to December 31 or January 1 to June 30) full or part-time releases for up to seven officers of the Association. The request for a release shall be made by written application to the OC President by June 15 for a one-year release or a half-year release beginning July 1, and by October 31 for a half-year release beginning January 1.

The Union President and/or designee shall be granted three (3) days per year without loss of pay to attend to Union duties and/or to attend Union functions, provided the Union pay for the cost of the substitute. Elected or designated Union members may engage in Union activities directly relating to the Union’s duties as representative of the employees during the school day, without loss of pay, provided such activities do not infringe upon the members’ assigned duties or the duties of any other employee.

Such leaves shall normally begin at the beginning of the semester for school-term employees or July 1st for year-round employees. Members shall be credited with service time for salary increment and benefit purposes. The President of the UNION, or the designee, will be granted one school day release time during the school year, at no loss of salary, for the purpose of attending the Illinois Federation of TEACHERS State Convention. At the discretion of the Superintendent, an official of the UNION may be granted one school day of release time per semester to work in concert with the Administration to serve the general welfare of the District. Additional time may be approved, at the discretion of the Superintendent, when mutually agreeable.

Upon written advanced notice to the Superintendent or designee of at least five (5) working days, a leave of absence shall be granted to the Union President and/or one (1) designee for up to 6 (six) work days each to attend Union conventions or conduct other Union business. The Union President and Grievance Chair shall not be assigned a supervisory period.

The Union President shall be granted one (1) class period per week release time to address concerns of the Administration and Union membership. This class period shall be a regularly scheduled class time, determined by the current Union President and the immediate supervisor, as annual schedules are prepared. One (1) of these release periods per month shall be used by the Union President to meet with the Administrative Team.

One (1) of these release periods per month shall be used by the Union President and/or designee upon request by either party, to meet with the building-level and/or District-level Administrative Team.
