Refilling. After the sewer or other work has been laid and proved to be water tight, the trench or other excavations shall be refilled. Utmost care shall be taken in doing this, so that no damage shall be caused to the sewer and other permanent work. The filling in the haunches and upto 75 cm above the crown of the sewer shall consist of the finest selected materials place carefully in 15 cm. Layers and flooded and consolidated. After this has laid the trench and other excavation shall be refilled carefully in 15 cm layers with materials taken from the excavation, each layer being watered to assist in the consolidation unless the Independent Engineer shall otherwise direct.

Refilling. Refilling the trenches shall start in the section of sewer line after the section is cured, tested and approved by the Consulting Engineer/Architect or their representatives. The backfilling material shall be free from cinders, ashes, slag, refuge, rubbish, vegetable or organic material, lumps boulders, rock or stone fragments which are min the opinion of the Consulting Engineer/Architect deleterious. Backfilling up to 300 mm ( 12 inches approximately) on the top of the pipe shall be done by placing the excavated stuff or any other material, approved by the Consulting Engineer/Architect, in case the excavated stuff is not suitable in their opinion. It shall be laid in layers of 200 mm and shall be compacted by tamping in such a manner as to avoid any damage to sewer, fittings and appurtenances. Refilling with black cotton soil shall be avoided in this zone. The layer shall be compacted well to give dense soil around the pipe. The remaining portion shall be filled with excavated material or any other material approved by the Consulting Engineer/Architect, if the excavated material is not suitable in their opinion for refilling.
Refilling credit: Liquefied petroleum gas, when sold by refilling of a container or an exchange of containers (the vendor shall give the purchaser full credit for the unused liquid remaining in a container being exchanged or refilled). Exempt from this requirement are all lift truck motor fuel cylinders, one-hundred-pound cylinders used for construction purposes, and any cylinders less than forty pounds that are exchanged rather than refilled when the purchaser is notified that no refilling credit will be given. This notification shall be accomplished by way of an appropriate sign or written agreement.
