Reduction in Force Defined. A reduction in force will be implemented by the Employer in the event of a reduction in patient census, decline in work load, closing or partial closing of a unit, department or program, negative economic conditions, or for other reasons which require such actions. Any such reductions will be effectuated pursuant to the procedures specified below, or as agreed upon by the parties. Reductions in force can occur with or without layoff.

Reduction in Force Defined. For the purposes of this Article, a reduction in force, except for those teaching non credit bearing courses, shall mean the reduction in full time equivalency (FTE) below 1.00 for established Instructors or a total elimination of their position. A change in class assignments or a difference in the assignment of academic work units that does not result in a reduction in FTE is not a reduction in force.
Reduction in Force Defined. Reduction in force shall be defined as an involuntary reduction in FTE for any regular unit member. This shall include probationary and post-probationary employees, but substitute and temporary employees are not subject to the procedures described in this Article.

Upon the request of either party, the District and the Federation shall meet promptly to discuss the impact of such action and any possible alternative courses of action.
