Recurring Serious Illness. When a teacher applies for several periods of leave because of recurring illness in the family the employer has a discretion as to how many times leave with pay is granted in the same school year, having regard for the welfare of the school or class concerned.

Recurring Serious Illness. When a principal applies for several periods of leave because of recurring illness in the family the board has a discretion as to how many times leave with pay is granted in the same school year, having regard for the welfare of the school or class concerned. Note: The production of a medical certificate or other evidence of illness may be required in the case of leave granted in terms of clauses 5.5.2, 5.5.3 and 5.5.4.

  • Serious Illness Should a participant be unable to take the leave when scheduled because of serious injury or illness occurring before commencement of the leave, he/she may cancel the leave and receive payment as in Article 12.8.3.9 or, with the consent of the College, defer the leave to a time mutually agreeable, not to exceed one (1) year.

  • Illness injury, or pregnancy-related condition of a member of the employee’s immediate family where the employee’s presence is reasonably necessary for the health and welfare of the employee or affected family member;

  • Critical Illness Three (3) days per year with pay shall be granted in the case of critical illness or accident to a member of the employee's immediate family as defined in Section 7.4. A statement by the physician verifying the illness or accident is life threatening and the need for the employee to be present with the immediate family member shall be attached to the employee’s Report of Absence form when submitted to his or her immediate supervisor.   • Extended Illness Sick leave for extended illness (5 or more days) will be paid only during the time period in which a physician certifies the employee to be physically or mentally disabled, and only to the extent of the number of days accumulated.

  • Sickness In the event that an employee requires hospitalization or is seriously ill during his/her annual vacation period, the employee shall, upon request and upon presentation of a physician's statement, apply the period of illness or hospitalization to sick leave rather than vacation, provided the sick bank is not used. The employee must inform the College of the claim within one (1) week of returning to work.

  • Recurrence of Disability If you become disabled for the same or a related reason within thirteen (13) weeks following your return to full-time permanent work after a short-term disability, the second disability period will be considered a continuation of the first. Benefits would then resume as if you had not returned to work. If the new disability is not related to the first, and provided that you have returned to full-time permanent work for at least four (4) weeks, you will begin a new benefit period, and the Basic Benefit period will be reinstated.
