Quarantine/Catastrophic Disaster Leave. 7.1 Employees will be provided up to a maximum of ten (10) days paid leave of absence for quarantine by a health officer due to a contagious disease. The same will be provided for a catastrophic disaster that occurs in the employee’s school and/or community which causes the closure of the District or the employee’s school. If an absence from work is necessary and such absence is not covered by one of the types of leave with pay, leave of absence without pay may be granted to employees under the provisions of this Section upon approval of the Human Resource Department. Such leave shall be without compensation and without pension contribution or other benefits. Application for leave of absence must be made in writing. Advance approval by the Human Resource Department is required. Exceptions to the advance approval requirement may be made for medical emergencies, at the discretion of the District. These application and approval procedures must be followed in order to maintain a person’s employment status, and to provide information to the employee about options to continue insurance during the leave of absence. More detailed information regarding application and return procedures and conditions for such leave is available from the District’s Human Resource Department. Leaves of absence shall be granted as required under the Federal law known as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) so long as it remains in force. The Human Resource Department provides procedures in compliance with FMLA.
Quarantine/Catastrophic Disaster Leave. Employees will be provided up to a maximum of ten (10) days paid leave of absence for quarantine by a health officer due to a contagious disease. The ten (10) days of leave as defined in the paragraph above only applies for the duration of the current collective bargaining agreement. Should the contract end date reach expiration and a new collective bargaining agreement is not in place, the 10 days from the prior agreement are no longer available. Any future use of time as defined in the above paragraph must be utilized from a subsequent collective bargaining agreement.

  • Disaster Leave ‌ When there has been a natural disaster of a magnitude that requires the Board of Supervisors to Proclaim a County State of Emergency, the County will enact this disaster leave provision. During the proclaimed emergency period and for up to one year from the termination of the said proclamation, County employees may donate accrued compensatory time and vacation leave to other County employees who have lost work time because they have been a victim of a disaster affecting their primary residence. For up to one year from the termination of said proclamation, impacted employees may use up to 320 hours of donated leave. Such donated time will not exceed the total amount of time lost by the receiving employee including vacation, compensatory time used and any unpaid leave incurred. Unused donated time at the expiration of the leave provision period will be returned to the donor.

  • Catastrophic Leave The County will administer a Catastrophic Leave procedure designed to permit individual donations of annual leave, vacation, healthcare leave (8 hours maximum per fiscal year), compensatory and/or PIP leave time to an employee who is required to be on an extended unpaid leave due to a catastrophic medical condition or other serious circumstances.

  • Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank [a] The District will establish and manage a catastrophic sick leave bank from which eligible educators may draw leave under the conditions and restrictions outlined below. Teachers who wish to participate in the catastrophic sick leave bank program shall be required to contribute one (1) day of their available sick leave to the bank. This contribution must be made each year during the insurance open enrollment period, as designated by the District, by completing and submitting the appropriate form to the Human Resources Department. If the bank has a substantial balance of days remaining at the end of the academic year, the Association and District may agree to suspend the contribution requirement for one year. Any educator who did not previously participate in the bank but who desires to participate during the non- contribution year will be required to donate one (1) day to initiate eligibility by submitting the appropriate form to the Human Resources Department during the insurance open enrollment period, as designated by the District. [b] Only educators who have contributed to the bank and who have depleted their sick leave and personal leave balances shall be eligible to receive consideration for sick leave from the bank. [c] All requests for sick leave from the bank must be in writing and must be addressed to the Human Resources Director. Requests may be submitted and approved any time after the required sick leave has been contributed. The requests must include the reasons for the request, written verification from the attending physician indicating the nature and severity of the illness or health problem along with the projected recovery date, and the number of sick leave days requested. [d] Only severe, extended illness and catastrophic medical problems of an employee or immediate family member will be considered for leave withdrawals from the bank. Illness or medical problems of a short-term nature shall not be considered. Life-threatening illness or severe accidents requiring extended recovery periods will be given first priority. [e] Withdrawals from the bank for illness of the participating employee shall not exceed one hundred (100) leave days per employee during any four (4) year period. [f] Withdrawals from the bank for illness of an immediate family member shall not exceed twenty (20) days during any consecutive four (4) year period. For requests under this policy, immediate family members shall include husband, wife, son, daughter, father, mother, brother, sister, grandmother, and grandfather. In addition, exceptions may be considered by the Superintendent for other relatives or those who have virtually held the position of an immediate member of the family. [g] In all sick leave bank withdrawal requests, whether for the participating employee or for an immediate family member, the District reserves the right to approve requests, deny requests, or to approve only a portion of the leave days requested.

  • Pandemic An epidemic that spreads over a wide area, crossing borders and defined as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and/or by the competent local authorities of the country where the loss occurred. Quarantine Isolation of the person, in the event of suspected illness or proven illness, decided by a competent local authority, in order to avoid a risk of spreading said illness in the context of an epidemic or pandemic.
