PURPOSE OF APPLICATION. To use microencapsulated islets pretreated with antioxidants as an alternative to insulin treatment for diabetes. RATIONALE: The idea to use these antioxidant-treated microencapsulated islet transplants in diabetic patients requiring insulin treatment was formed by considering together several recent findings in my laboratory at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.   • Effect of Application To the extent that any provision of any Application related to any Letter of Credit is inconsistent with the provisions of this Article III, the provisions of this Article III shall apply.
