PROFESSIONAL OBLIGATION. The primary duty of bargaining unit members is to discharge the duties and responsibilities set forth in their official job description in an effective manner and in the way that is conducive to carrying out the overall mission of the College. However, the College may in its discretion deploy any unit member to perform designated unit-covered duties and responsibilities not explicit in their current job description but for which they are reasonably qualified by having met the qualifications for their current position. This shall not be construed to impact the ability of a unit member to act in higher unit and/or non-unit capacities provided that the other contract provisions and past practices are observed, including the payment of additional compensation as negotiated at time of assignment.
PROFESSIONAL OBLIGATION. 6.1 The professional obligation of a fiscal-year employee shall begin on the first day of the fiscal year of the College or on the effective date of appointment, whichever is later, and continue to the last day of the fiscal year. PROFESSIONAL OBLIGATION. A. Unit members may be assigned to fulfill their professional obligation at the Utica campus, the Rome campus, or off-campus sites. Unit members who have professional obligations (excluding overload) at more than one (1) site on the same day and who use their own motor vehicles for transportation shall be reimbursed at the federal mileage rate for travel between work sites. For purposes of this Agreement, travel one-way between the Utica and Rome campuses is twenty (20) miles.

Staff members having a ten (l0) month obligation shall not be required to report for service on those days, on which the College is open, which have been designated as Thanksgiving, Christmas or Spring recess periods for full-time day students, and other holidays as set forth in the academic calendar. The term service as used herein shall mean the availability of the unit member to properly perform the duties and responsibilities of his or her professional obligation, under the general supervision of the administrator or administrative officer to whom he or she reports. The parties agree that, except otherwise provided herein or previously approved (as in the case of illness or official travel) by the appropriate administrator or administrative officer, unit members are expected to be present and available on campus each day the College is open, which is normally Monday through Friday, during which time they will perform their professional obligation and duties including, but not limited to, attending all meetings scheduled by the administrator to whom they report and all meetings of committees to which they have been appointed or elected. PROFESSIONAL OBLIGATION. At the College, the primary professional obligation of a faculty member is teaching. Teaching faculty members also have other professional responsibilities, including the development of curriculum (within their area of special expertise), advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in College committees, keeping regular posted office hours scheduled at times convenient for students and faculty, participation in traditional functions which have unique significance, and ongoing professional activity in their areas of artistic/scholarly expertise. The nature of an educational institution is such that the proper performance of the duties of the teaching faculty will extend beyond classroom responsibilities and cannot be restricted to a fixed amount of time. Therefore, this Agreement shall not be interpreted in such a fashion as either to require a specific number of hours of service or to give faculty members the right to additional compensation based on the number of hours of service performed, except as elsewhere provided for in this Agreement.

The professional obligations and duties will include, but not be limited to, attending all meetings scheduled by the appropriate College Administrative Officer or College Administrator; all meetings of committees to which they have been appointed or elected; providing academic advisement; instructional advisement; attending all meetings called by the President; and attending either the December or May Commencement at the option of the College. Job Descriptions Non-teaching faculty will be provided with a job description for their position. Should the job description include the concept of other duties as assigned, such other duties shall be construed to mean only those other duties that are related to the job description. Excepting Librarians and such other classifications of employees as have heretofore been otherwise scheduled, the normal schedule for non-teaching faculty shall be on-campus availability Monday through Friday for seven (7) consecutive hours each day, exclusive of meal periods, unless on vacation (fiscal-year obligation only) as approved by the appropriate College Administrator. The normal schedule for Librarians and such other classifications, as herein above mentioned, shall be on-campus availability five (5) days per week, seven (7) consecutive hours each day, exclusive of meal periods, unless on vacation (fiscal- year obligation only) as approved by the appropriate College Administrator.
