Professional Meeting Leave. A. A certified staff member may be approved by the Board to be absent from school to attend a conference, workshop, Association-related conference, or any other meeting approved by the Board.
Professional Meeting Leave. Teachers may apply in writing to the Principal for permission to attend professional meetings and workshops. Within budget constraints and in the sole determination of the Superintendent, together with the Principal’s recommendation, permission to attend such meetings may be approved either at no loss of pay and/or with reasonable reimbursement for the cost of the same. The Union President or his/her designee shall be released without loss of pay for a maximum of six (6) days per school year in total, taken in no less than one-half day increments, in order to attend to Union business provided, however, the Superintendent is given at least one week notice (except in cases of emergency) and provided further that the Union shall reimburse the District for the actual cost of substitutes.
Professional Meeting Leave. Money will be appropriated for the professional growth of teachers and shall be for the exclusive use by members of the bargaining unit. Money may be appropriated in the general fund as well as any other available funding options. The Board and the Federation agree to work together to create professional development teams at the building and district levels. The teams shall devise a comprehensive program of professional development. The participating teachers shall be compensated for their work on these committees. GFT will submit professional development training proposals for trainings provided by GFT members by August 1 and will receive notification of approval or denial from the Board within ten (10) days of the first meeting of the Board in the new school year. The Board commits $40,000 for the payment of salaries, stipends and benefits for the work completed by Federation members. The Board and the Federation agree to develop a mutually agreeable compensation structure for the work completed, but at no time shall the payment of salaries and benefits exceed the total allocation of $40,000 for the duration of the Agreement. Upon written request by the GFT, the treasurer will send a financial report to the GFT executive committee on the status of professional meeting leave funds. Said report will be issued within seven (7) business days of receipt of the request. Consideration will be given by the building principal and Superintendent to each reasonable request for one (1) or more days of Professional Meeting Leave. Requests for Professional Meeting Leave must be in writing and submitted by the teacher at least three (3) weeks in advance of the anticipated absence. Teachers who are denied their request for such leave will be given a written reason. Whenever requests for such leave are approved, the Board shall pay the cost of registration and fees (lodging and meals that are a part of a program). Upon request of the Building Principal, the Teacher may be asked to present a written or verbal report or provide training to other staff members. No more than ten percent (10%) of the teaching staff per building may be granted professional leave on the same date unless the event for which the teacher is using professional leave is scheduled at the direction of the administration, or teacher attendance at the event is otherwise required by the administration. Leave will be granted (in order) based on the date of application.
