Professional Leave of Absence. Upon completion of all requirements set forth below and approval by the College, an Employee may, after completing at least five (5) Academic Years of service to the College, be granted a professional leave of absence for the purpose of acquiring professional or technical experience in the Employee's field, or for advanced study. Professional leaves of absence shall be taken without pay or benefits, and normally shall not exceed one (1) calendar year in length. The granting of a professional leave of absence shall be in the discretion of the College and shall be subject to the following conditions:

Professional Leave of Absence a. A faculty member may be granted upon request, up to one year’s leave of absence without pay, and upon further request up to an additional year’s leave without pay, for advanced study, research and scholarship, exchange teaching, government service, travel, or any other professional experience which is related to the faculty member’s field of teaching or employment or which will improve the faculty member’s professional competence.

Leave of absence may be granted for purposes of professional advancement subject to 31 approval by the College upon the recommendation of the President of the College, when in 32 their judgment, the professional competence of the Instructor and the general welfare of the 33 College shall be benefited. Such leave shall not be less than one (1) semester; not more than 34 two (2) consecutive semesters at any one time, and shall be without pay.

Professional Leave of Absence. 19.1 For a teacher who has been an active member of the Glastonbury Public Schools’ staff for a minimum of one (1) year, a leave of absence for a minimum of one academic semester and a maximum of one academic year may be granted to permit participation in academic year institutes, approved programs of graduate study or overseas teaching assignments. Although the year of absence will not be designated as a year of credit on the salary schedule, the Board of Education will insure maintenance of a teaching position for which the teacher is certified.
