Probationary Officer. For the purpose of this policy only, a probationary Officer shall be considered to be any person who is conditionally employed with the department as a recently hired law enforcement Officer.

Probationary Officer. A person hired into the CMU Police Department as a Police Officer shall be a probationary Officer for the first year of continuous employment with the University. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, the Officer shall be entered on a seniority list of the Department and shall be credited with full seniority for continuous service from the latest date of hire as a regular Officer with the University including the probationary period. There shall be no seniority among probationary Police Officers. Discharge or discipline of probationary Police Officers is not subject to the grievance procedure.

Probationary Officer. An employee’s probationary period shall be for one year from the date of hire, or until the completion of all basic police and fire training, whichever shall occur later. Basic police and fire training required by this section shall include, (1) certification as police officer by MCOLES, (2) certification as Firefighter II by Michigan Firefighter Training Council, and (3) successful completion of Department Field Officer Training and (4) certification as a Medical First Responder (MFR).
