Common use of Pregnancy and Parental Leaves Clause in Contracts

Pregnancy and Parental Leaves. 25.02 Employees may be eligible for Pregnancy and Parental Leave in accordance with the Employment Standards Act. An employee who becomes pregnant shall, upon request, be granted pregnancy leave for a period of seventeen (17) weeks beginning before, on or after the termination date of pregnancy and ending not later than seventeen (17) weeks after the termination date of pregnancy. At its discretion, the Employer may require an employee to submit a medical certificate certifying pregnancy. The Employer shall reimburse the cost of the medical certificate. An employee shall inform the person designated by the Department, School or Faculty where the employee works in writing of her plans for taking leave at least four (4) weeks in advance of the initial date of pregnancy leave, or such lesser period where there is a valid reason why that notice cannot be given.
