Similarly, Anderson links the emergence of the nation-state (the result of nationalism) with the spontaneous intersection of various historical and cultural forces, the disintegration of the religious community, and the dynastic realm in particular. According to him, the decline of these systems since the 17th century provided the historical and geographical space in which nations could emerge.121 Xxxxxxxxx goes back to the 16th century to explain the original modern idea of the English nation. According to her, it occurred in relation to the Protestant Reformation, which stimulated the translation and reading of the Bible into English.122 As Xxxxxx suggests, this religious transformation reinforced the consciousness of belonging to the English nation.123 Xxxxxxxxx also says, “…though Protestantism cannot be said to have given birth to the English nation, it did play the crucial role of a midwife without whom the child might not have been born.”124 Xxxxxxxx agrees that in the context of Enlightenment-era rational secularism, nationalism provided a secular alternative to the previously sacral role of explaining and answering for the weight of human suffering.125 So, nationalism has replaced religion as a ‘secular glue’ that bonded society together.126 In this context, Xxxxx argues, myths are connected with the emergence of the modern world as things people look on for salvation. 116 Xxxxxxx X.   • Political Activity An employee shall not use his or her official authority for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the nomination or election of any candidate for public office. An employee shall not command or solicit in a coercive fashion from any other employee direct or indirect participation in any political activity or enforce or solicit in a coercive fashion contribution for any political party, organization, or candidate. An employee shall retain his or her right to vote and freely express opinions on all political subjects. An employee shall not be prohibited from participation in local community activities or from holding public office in the community in which the employee resides, provided that such activity does not conflict with Section 3.01 of the Rules and Regulations for Personnel Administration (and the Federal Hatch Act to the extent that employees of agencies receiving federal funds are subject thereto).

  • Prohibition on Political Activity with City Funds In accordance with San Francisco Administrative Code Chapter 12.G, Contractor may not participate in, support, or attempt to influence any political campaign for a candidate or for a ballot measure (collectively, “Political Activity”) in the performance of the services provided under this Agreement. Contractor agrees to comply with San Francisco Administrative Code Chapter 12.G and any implementing rules and regulations promulgated by the City’s Controller. The terms and provisions of Chapter 12.G are incorporated herein by this reference. In the event Contractor violates the provisions of this section, the City may, in addition to any other rights or remedies available hereunder, (i) terminate this Agreement, and (ii) prohibit Contractor from bidding on or receiving any new City contract for a period of two (2) years. The Controller will not consider Contractor’s use of profit as a violation of this section.

  • Political Action No Employee shall be disciplined for participation in any political action(s) called for by the Canadian Labour Congress, its affiliates, or subordinate bodies.

Contractor is subject to the enforcement and penalty provisions in Chapter 12G.

  • Chemical Dependency Alcoholism and drug addiction shall be recognized as an illness. However, sick leave pay for treatment of such illness shall be contingent upon two conditions: 1) the employee must undergo an evaluation by a licensed alcohol and drug counselor or substance abuse professional, and 2) the employee, during or following the above care, must participate in a prescribed program of treatment and rehabilitation approved by the Employer in consultation with the Employer's health care provider.
