Personal Leave Chargeable to Sick Leave. Teachers shall be permitted to be absent six (6) days each school year for personal reasons and these days shall be charged against accrued sick leave when used. This leave shall be non-cumulative. A teacher planning to use a personal leave day or days shall notify his/her principal or immediate supervisor at least one day (24 hours) in advance. The teacher shall not be required to give reasons for such leave except on such days as specified in this article. Sick leave used for personal reasons may not be used during the first five (5) days or the last five (5) days in which the students are in attendance, or immediately before or after the scheduled holidays of Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break, Memorial Day, preceding or following recognized holidays provided students are in attendance, or on a Staff Development Day as designated in the District Calendar, except in case of emergency. The teacher shall be required to give reasons when claiming an emergency. Teachers shall not be required to use personal leave chargeable to sick leave to attend a conference when their attendance is required by the administration.

  • Personal Leave With Pay With prior notification, full-time employees who are eligible to accrue sick leave may use a maximum of six (6) days personal leave with pay per year, provided that such days shall be charged against the employee’s current accrued sick leave. This leave is non-cumulative.

  • Unpaid Personal Leave of Absence 1. Any employee may apply for an unpaid personal leave of absence for good and sufficient reason. Leave pursuant to this provision may be for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months in any fourteen (14) consecutive months. Such leave may be granted at the discretion of the appointing authority and shall not be unreasonably denied. Employees are encouraged to consult with their agency/department Personnel Officer to determine if they are eligible for benefits available under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act. All requests for such leave and responses shall be in writing. The application for leave must specifically state the reasons for such application and the length of time requested. After completion of a period of personal leave of absence, the employee shall be entitled to return to the organizational unit, status and position held immediately prior to the beginning of the leave of absence. If the employee's position is abolished during any such leave, he/she shall be notified and allowed to exercise his/her rights under the Seniority Article of this Agreement.
