Permitted Uses of Sick Leave. Teachers may use their accumulated sick leave days for illness or disability of the Teacher or the Teacher's immediate family (including disability or illness due to pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery therefrom). A Teacher may also use sick leave for necessary medical treatment or examination when such treatment and examination cannot reasonably be scheduled outside of the employee's workday. When leave is necessary due to the death of a member of the Teacher's immediate family, sick leave days may be utilized. In addition, personal leave may also be used either alone or in combination with sick leave for this purpose. Absences under this section, which exceed three (3) consecutive days, shall be considered leave under FMLA, and shall be subject to the requirements of that Act. Leave of Absence request forms are available from the Human Resources Department. For the purpose of this Article, immediate family shall be interpreted to include: husband, wife, son, daughter, father, mother, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in- law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandchildren, and grandparents of the Teacher, or any person living in the immediate household of the Teacher as a member of the family.
Permitted Uses of Sick Leave. (1) Upon written request, employees will be entitled to use accrued paid sick leave when absent from work for diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition of the employee or a family member, as listed below, or one (1) person designated in writing by the employee for the calendar year, for preventive care (physicals, flu shots, etc.) of the employee or a family member, for an employee who is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking to obtain relief, including medical attention and psychological counseling.

  • Uses of Sick Leave Sick leave shall be granted to an employee upon approval of the Employer and for the following reasons:

  • Use of Sick Leave a. An employee, other than a casual employee, with responsibilities in relation to a class of person set out in subparagraph (ii) of paragraph (c) of this sub-clause, who needs the employee’s care and support shall be entitled to use, in accordance with this sub-clause, any current or accrued sick leave entitlements provided for in clause 18 of the award, sick leave, for absences to provide care and support for such persons when they are ill. Such leave may be taken for part of a single day.

  • Utilization of Sick Leave with Pay Employees who have earned sick leave credits shall be eligible for sick leave for any period of absence from employment due to any of the following reasons: • illness; • bodily injury; • disability resulting from pregnancy; • necessity for medical or dental care; • if the employee is a victim of domestic violence, harassment, sexual assault, or stalking; or the parent or guardian of a minor child or dependent who is a victim of domestic violence, harassment, sexual assault or stalking, pursuant to ORS 659A.270 through 659A.290; • attendance at an employee assistance program; • exposure to contagious disease; • for the emergency repair of personal assistive devices which are medically necessary for the employee to perform assigned duties; • attendance upon members of the employee’s or the employee’s spouse’s immediate family, or the equivalent of each for domestic partners, (parent, wife, husband, children, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, or another member of the immediate household) where the employee’s presence is required because of illness or death. • parental leave The employee has the duty to insure that they make other arrangements, within a reasonable period of time, for the attendance upon children or other persons in the employee’s care. Certification of an attending physician or practitioner may be required by the Agency to support the employee’s claim for sick leave if the employee is absent in excess of seven (7) days, or if the Agency has evidence that the employee is abusing sick leave privileges. The Agency may also require such certificate from an employee to determine whether the employee should be allowed to return to work where the Agency has reason to believe that the employee’s return to work would be a health hazard to either the employee or to others. (See Section 9 for FMLA & OFLA.)

  • Use of Sick Leave Credits An employee may draw from the employee’s sick leave credits in conjunction with Workers’ Compensation payments to equal, but not exceed, the employee’s regular daily rate of pay. When the insurance company makes payment, the Town shall be reimbursed for that portion of sick leave covered by insurance and the employee will be re-credited with the proportional amount of sick leave. An employee may not use vacation or personal leave credits to supplement Workers’ Compensation.

  • Abuse of Sick Leave Misuse of leave, violation of orders, directives, or contractual requirements concerning the use of sick leave and other forms of leave used in lieu of sick leave are cause for disciplinary action.

  • Entitlement to Other Sick Leave Each employee in the bargaining unit shall once a year be credited with a total of 100 days sick leave in addition to the sick leave provided under Section 13.4.1 of this Article. Each day of sick leave provided by this Section shall be compensated at the rate of fifty (50) percent of the employee’s regular salary. The paid sick leave provided for under this Section shall be in addition to any other paid leave provided for in this Article and shall be used after the exhaustion of the leaves provided in Sections 13.4. The leave in this Section shall not be accumulative.

  • Use of Vacation Leave for Sick Leave Purposes The Employer may allow an employee who has used all of his or her sick leave to use vacation leave for sick leave purposes as provided in Article 12.2 A. An employee who has used all of his or her sick leave may use vacation leave for sick leave purposes as provided in Article 12.2 B – H.

  • Donation of Sick Leave The District shall allow unit members to donate sick leave to individual employees who have suffered long-term disabilities or illnesses. Donating unit members shall retain a thirty (30) day balance of sick leave after their donation and may donate no more than twenty-five (25) days of sick leave per year. The donation form is Appendix I. Part-time faculty may receive sick leave donations from any employee, and may donate accumulated sick leave to other part-time faculty following the same requirements as outlined above. Part-time faculty may not donate sick leave to full- time employees.
