Overload Assignments. 1. It is understood and recognized that assignment to overload for additional compensation is not a regular expectation, not a right, and not an obligation of employment. It is also understood and recognized that programmatic need is a primary consideration in the assignment of courses and that expertise relevant to the programmatic need will often be a factor in determining the assignment of specific courses to be offered. To the extent possible within the above parameters, academic units should endeavor to distribute equitably these opportunities to work among members of the faculty. If a unit administrator determines the need for an overload assignment, the expectation of the parties to this Agreement is that every reasonable effort should be made to make the assignment available to continuing tenured and tenure-track faculty and then FTNTT Faculty members in the academic unit or resident at the campus at which the course is to be offered before assigning the course to a part-time or non-university faculty member.
