Out of Town Allowances. The Employer shall arrange, assign and pay for out of town living accommodations that meet a suitable and reasonable standard. Double occupancy at an economy motel normally meets the standard. In addition, the Employer shall pay each employee a food allowance for each day that the employee is scheduled to work at a project that requires overnight accommodation. The daily allowance is paid for each scheduled workday for the employee at the out of town work site. The daily food allowance is $51.00.

The daily food allowance is $40.00. Effective January 1, 2020, this increases to $42.50 and January 1, 2021, this increases to $45.00.
Out of Town Allowances. (a) In regard to out-of-town allowances, it is understood that if the Employer requires an employee to be out-of-town overnight, the Employer will provide suitable room and board for the employee up to a maximum of eighty dollars ($80.00) per day or a maximum of four hundred dollars ($400.00) per week. If the employee is more than one hundred and sixty (160) kilometres out of Toronto then such room and board allowance shall be payable to a maximum of seven (7) days per week;

Single occupancy at an economy hotel or a multi-bedroom house with private rooms normally meets the standard. In addition, the Employer shall pay each employee a forty dollar ($40.00) food allowance for each day that the employee is scheduled to work at a project that requires overnight accommodation. The allowance is paid for each day worked by the employee and for each day that work was scheduled but not performed due to circumstances outside the employee’s control, but excluding days not worked due to the illness or absence of the employee. The Employer shall cover the cost of any household items required for out of town accommodations. If accommodations are not available and the employee is required to travel to the worksite each day, travel time will be paid in accordance with Article 13.01.

Effective December 1, 2021: A premium of seventy-five ($0.75/hr) cents per hour worked shall be paid to employees when assigned to a worksite that is 100km or more from Employer’s shop.

When employees are sent to a project beyond one hundred and twenty kilometers (120 km) from the Employer’s base of operations, the Employer shall arrange, assign and pay for out of town living accommodations that meet a suitable and reasonable standard. Double occupancy at an economy motel normally meets the standard. An employee who would be provided accommodation may elect instead to receive an Accommodation Opt-Out Allowance of fifty dollars ($50.00) per day rather than stay at the Employer’s accommodations.
