Orientation and In-Service Program. The Hospital the need for a Orientation Program of such duration as it may deem appropriate taking into consideration the needs of the Hospital and the nurses involved. Before assigning a newly hired nurse in charge of a nursing unit, the Hospital will first provide orientation, in accordance with Article both to the Hospital and to such nursing unit. It is understood that such nurse may be assigned to any tour as part of her orientation program providing such assignment is in accordance with any scheduling regulations or objectives contained in the Appendix of Local Provisions which forms part of this Collective Agreement. Regular part-time nurses recalled from layoff under Article, (a) and regular part-time nurses whose probationary period has been extended under Article . and regular part-time nurses who transfer on a permanent basis may be provided any orientation determined necessary by the Hospital. A request by such a nurse for orientation shall not be unreasonably denied. Both the Hospital and the Association their joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and to participate in, in-service education. The Association supports the principle of its members' responsibility for their own professional development and the Hospital will endeavour to provide programs related to the requirements of the Hospital. Available programs will be and the Hospital will endeavour to provide nurses with opportunities to attend such programs during their regularly scheduled working hours. The delegation of Added Nursing and Sanctioned Medical Acts (Special Procedures) to nurses shall be in accordance with guidelines established by the College of Nurses from time to time and any approved Hospital policy related thereto. When a nurse is on duty and to attend any service program within the hospital and during her regularly scheduled working hours, she shall suffer no loss of regular pay. When a nurse is required by the Hospital to attend courses outside of her regularly scheduled working hours, she shall be paid for all time spent in attendance on such courses at her regular straight time hourly rate of pay. Nurses may be required, as part of their regular duties, to supervise the activities of students and will be informed in writing of their responsibilities in relation to these students. Orientation and In-Service Program. 12.05 An orientation and in-service program will be provided to all nurses. These programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of the Nurse/Management Committee as established under Article 6.06.
