ON-CALL / STANDBY. 17.1 Certain positions may require the employee, or individuals may be called upon from time to time, to be on-call or on standby during some or all of their time off between scheduled shifts (“on-call”). The overtime provisions of Article 15 do not apply to employees on Stand-By. 17.2 An employee who is on-call shall be available and may be required to respond to and resolve inquiries by phone or computer or to return to the workplace to address issues that cannot be resolved remotely. 17.3 The Employer may assign an employee to be on-call during some or all of their time-off between shifts. On- call requirements shall be clearly communicated either at the time of hire or in advance by the Employer as the need arises. 17.4 An employee who is on-call shall be compensated at a rate equivalent to 1/10 (one tenth) their hourly rate of pay for each hour that they are on-call to a maximum of $20.00 per working day and to a maximum of $50.00 per scheduled day off. The employee shall complete and submit a weekly timesheet indicating the number of hours on-call during the preceding week. 17.5 When a call or email to the employee has been prompted by an error of the employee being called and the purpose of the call or email is to correct such error or when an employee responds to a call by phone or email and the employee spends less than ten (10) minutes in dealing with the issue, the employee will not be eligible for any further pay. In the event the employee is contacted to deal with another issue outside of the initial ten (10) minute period or the employee spends ten (10) or more minutes in dealing with an issue, the employee shall maintain a record of the time spent for such and shall be compensated at a rate of one and one-half times (1.5X) their basic hourly rate of pay. 17.6 In the event an employee is required to return to the workplace on a scheduled work day, the employee shall be compensated for a minimum of two (2) hours at the rate of one and one half (1.5) times the employee’s basic hourly rate. In the event an employee is required to return to the workplace on a scheduled day off, the employee shall be compensated for all hours worked at the rate of one and one half (1.5) times the employee’s basic hourly rate with a minimum of three and one half (3.5) hours. ON-CALL / STANDBY. 29.01 On-call/standby (a) When an Employee is directed to be available to return to work outside of regular scheduled working hours, they shall be paid at the rate of one (1) hour’s pay at the maximum pay range of the appropriate supervisor. (b) This rate shall be increased to two (2) hours pay per day for standby duties performed on scheduled days of rest and statutory holidays. 29.02 An Employee who is called back to work pursuant to Clause 30.01 above shall be compensated in accordance with Clause 16.01, Overtime, for all hours worked. 29.03 When an Employee, while on on-call/standby, is unable to report to work when required, no compensation shall be granted for that day. 29.04 An Employee who is off on Sick Leave shall not be placed on the On-call/Standby schedule for the period of the Sick Leave. It shall be the responsibility of the Employer to replace an Employee who cannot do his scheduled On-call/Standby due to illness. 29.05 An Employee shall not normally be required to be on-call on two (2) consecutive weekends or two (2) consecutive paid holidays where other qualified staff are available. 29.06 All Employees within a functional area shall receive the opportunity to be assigned on-call on a fair and equitable basis.
ON-CALL / STANDBY. 1) Those employees assigned to “on-call” will be required to respond to emergencies that occur outside regular working hours. Employees who are “qualified” including those newly hired upon the successful completion of the probationary period will be assigned to the “on-call” rotation for a period of seven (7) consecutive days at a time. The assignment will be rotated on an equitable basis and each assignment will begin on Thursday commencing at the employee’s regular starting time. 2) The employee on call will be supplied with a pager or cell phone and will be expected to respond to an emergency within a reasonable time of first receiving any call. 3) Substitutions for on-call duty are permissible provided that such changes are approved by the Operations Manager or in his absence, the Chief Executive Officer in advance. 4) When an employee is called in for emergency work outside of his normal working hours, he shall be provided with a minimum payment of two (2) hours’ pay at the appropriate premium rate or the actual time worked at the appropriate premium rate whichever is the greater, except when a short call follows within one-half (1/2) hour of the completion of the previous call or if the call falls within the minimum payment of two (2) hours, in which case time shall be considered continuous from the start of the previous call. There shall be no minimum payment applicable to overtime worked as an extension of an employee’s normal daily hours. 5) There shall be no minimum payment applicable to overtime worked within one (1) hour before an employee’s normal daily working hours. Any call received within that time shall be paid one (1) hour at the premium rate.

ON-CALL / STANDBY. 22.01 An employee is required to be on standby/on call during the following hours: 4:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Paid Holidays 22.02 Employees required to be on standby/on call, shall receive standby pay in the amount of three dollars ($3.00) per hour for each hour of standby duty. Where such standby falls on a Paid Holiday as outlined in Article 11, the employee shall receive standby pay in the amount of three dollars and fifty cents ($3.50) per hour. Where the standby/on call pay is converted to a time in lieu number of hours, such time may be accumulated up to twenty-one (21) hours and must be taken prior to the accumulation of additional time in lieu. 22.03 The standby/on call schedule will be posted by the Employer a month at a time. Standby assignments will be scheduled as equitably as possible amongst all employees in the bargaining unit. The employees may exchange scheduled standby subject to agreement by the Employer. 22.04 Employees on standby/on call will be provided with a beeper for the purpose of communication with the answering service for messages.
ON-CALL / STANDBY. A. A non-management employee shall be given a flat 2 hours nightly rate of their current, regular hourly rate for each day of on-call/standby pay. Employees who are on standby shall not be eligible for additional payments for weekends or holidays. Employees will still accrue overtime or double time if called out to be physically present on a job site as described below. 1. In addition to the flat rate, when an employee on standby duty is called to report to work, he will receive a minimum of 2 hours of overtime pay at 1.5 their hourly rate. 2. In addition to the flat rate, an employee on standby duty that is called to work on an actual holiday date, as listed in Article 8.A HOLIDAYS, shall be paid double time for all hours worked. 3. An employee who is out on a work-related or personal injury/illness is not eligible to receive the flat daily amount of standby duty pay. B. Hours spent on standby shall not be considered hours worked. C. Employees serving on standby duty are bound by the District’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy while on standby duty. D. An employee assigned to standby duty who fails, refuses, or is unable to respond to an emergency call is subject to disciplinary action. E. An employee assigned to standby duty may arrange to be replaced by a substitute, provided he/she receives approval from department supervision before the standby duty is scheduled to begin.
ON-CALL / STANDBY. The Practice does not currently utilize standby for bargaining unit nurses, however reserves the right to do so in the future should the business require it. If standby is used in the future, the Practice agrees to follow the St. Christopher’s Hospital Standby Policy. If the Practice seeks to implement any standby requirements for bargaining unit nurses in the future the affected employees and the Union will be given at least thirty (30) days’ notice and the parties agree to meet expeditiously to negotiate over the effects of any such decision.
