Common use of Number of Preparations Clause in Contracts

Number of Preparations. 15.4.1 Site administrators shall minimize the number of subject matter preparations required of each secondary unit member (6-12), and shall consult with the unit member prior to assigning more than two different preparations. No unit member shall have four (4) or more preparations without his or her consent, unless aide time is provided or other adjustments considered. Such considerations may include but are not limited to redistribution of students, assignment of aide time, provision of additional preparation time, or other similar action. Such action, however, shall be limited to that which is reasonably possible and is not overly disruptive to the education of the students. If action satisfactory to the teacher involved has not been initiated by a site administrator within five (5) working days after a request has been made by the teacher, and upon request of the teacher, the site administrator and the teacher will meet with the Superintendent to determine what action may be taken to relieve the teacher’s load. Remedial action mentioned above shall also be applicable in grades 6- 12 in cases of excessive numbers of preparations (four [4] or more) as jointly determined by the teacher and site administrator. A preparation is specific and separate planning and preparation for a particular grade or class.
