NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. It is acknowledged by the parties that the primary duty and responsibility of the teacher is to teach and that the organization of the school and the school day should be directed toward ensuring that the energy of the teacher is primarily utilized to this end. The Employer will make every reasonable effort to relieve teachers of performing non-professional duties by providing, wherever possible, supplementary assistance as funds and personnel become available. The non-professional chores connected with lunch duty, custodial duties and supervision of students performing custodial duties shall be eliminated from the teachers’ job responsibilities. In addition, Grade Level Chairs in elementary schools and Department Chairs/Heads in secondary schools without the extra preparation period, shall not have yard duty except in those small schools wherein it would be impractical or prohibitive to do so. Further, no member of the bargaining unit shall be required to balance or maintain daily registers, collect lunch money or inspect bathrooms or restrooms on any scheduled basis. However, teachers shall be responsible for maintaining accurate attendance records for students in their classes. The principal may schedule teachers on a rotation basis to supervise students outside the classroom. Teachers who assume frequent school-related activities, wherever possible, shall be given relief from non-professional duties. When given reasonable advance notice by the teacher, the Employer shall, within operational limitations, provide appropriate assistance in the moving and arranging of classroom furniture, equipment and boxes of supplies.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. It is generally accepted that decisions pertaining to the performance of non-teaching duties should be a matter of mutual concern between the faculty and the principal of each building. It is agreed that non-certificated and voluntary personnel may be utilized as much as possible in the performance of these non-teaching duties, thereby allowing certificated personnel greater effectiveness in performing classroom related duties.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. The School Committee and the Association acknowledge that a member's primary responsibility is to teach and that his/her energies should to the extent practical be used to this end. No elementary member is presently being required, and no elementary member shall be required, except in emergencies, to supervise any aspect of the Elementary Lunch Program. At the Senior High and Middle School level, lunch duty shall be assigned by the principal or his/her designee on a fair and equitable basis consistent with the operational needs of the building.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. Recognizing non-teaching duties such as supervision of classroom detention and bus loading are essential to a school operation, assignments in these areas may be assigned. Emergency situations may exist and emergency assignments may be made by the principal.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. Non-instructional duties such as bus supervision, class activities and others of this nature should be assumed by the certified staff. Assignments are to be rotated on a fair and equitable basis and should be accepted. Aides shall be used when possible.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. Teachers who are assigned hall duty shall receive credit for pupil contact. Hall duty referred to above is exclusive of and does not include a teacher's normal responsibility for the area around his/her respective classroom door.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. The District shall assign assistant time to each school, over and above the normal hours assigned, for the purpose of relieving teachers of non-professional duties such as, but not limited to, supervision of bus loading or unloading, and supervision of playgrounds. Teachers will assist in hall supervision during passing time. Teachers with students in their classrooms during student passing time may not be available to assist with hall supervision. The specific duties will be assigned following consultation between principal and faculty at each school. Employees shall not be required to drive students to activities which take place away from the school building. They may do so voluntarily only with the advance approval of their principal or principal designee. In such event, they shall use a school vehicle, if available. Personal car mileage shall be compensated at a rate equivalent to the state rate paid per mile for all driving done in their own automobile.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. Non-professional duties shall include food serving, milk distribution and supervision of cafeterias, sidewalks, bus loading or unloading, playgrounds and custodial functions.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. Employees will not be required to drive students to activities which take place away from the school building. They may do so voluntarily only with advance written approval of their administrator or immediate supervisor. In such event, they are covered by the Employer's liability insurance policy and Article II, Section F of this Agreement. NOTE: Employees should be aware that the District's insurance policy is secondary to the insurance of the vehicle owner if an accident occurs while students are being transported, and will provide coverage only after the vehicle owner's insurance has been exhausted.
NON-PROFESSIONAL DUTIES. 1. When licensed/certificated personnel are assigned janitorial, building repair, yard maintenance duties, etc. they shall be paid for those duties at the same rate of pay as the education support personnel ordinarily responsible for those duties.
