Non-Mandatory Training. A. For purposes of this Section, "non-mandatory" training is training or education where attendance is generally requested/initiated by an employee and is not required by the department. With prior and express authorization by the department head or designee, the State may reimburse Unit 17 employees for up to one hundred percent (100%) of the cost for course-required books or tuition and/or provide an amount of time off without loss of compensation for attendance at non-mandatory training. Release time without loss of compensation may be for up to one hundred percent (100%) of the time required for course attendance. Both parties agree and understand that different amounts of reimbursement and release time may be provided to employees in the same or similar situations.

Non-Mandatory Training. In the event an employee volunteers for a non-mandatory training session of any duration, the employee’s RDO’s may be changed at the discretion of the District, without incurring overtime compensation.

Non-Mandatory Training. Supervisors will assist employees to identify and attend available training relevant to their jobs. Staff members wishing to attend workshops, conferences, training sessions or other educational courses of their own choosing will submit a request in writing to their Supervisor regarding the conditions and expenses of such leave. Written approval may be granted at the Executive Director’s discretion and the employee may ask for an advance against approved expenses. No further advances will be approved until the first advance is reconciled.

Non-Mandatory Training. When non-mandatory training or seminar courses are offered by or through the Xxxxx County EMS, the Director or designee shall determine which Employee shall be eligible to take part in such training or seminars. Upon notice of training or seminar courses being offered, Employees shall have the opportunity to notify the Director or designee, in writing, of their desire to partake in such training. If two (2) or more individuals express an interest in participation in non-mandatory training and seminars, then seniority shall prevail in the selection process unless the employer has good reason to select on some other basis. Employees who attend non-mandatory training shall not be entitled to compensation. The cost of non-mandatory training, as approved by the Director or designee shall be paid by the County.

Training is by invitation and the Employee has the right to opt in or opt out of training offered. For participation in training that falls on a rostered working day, remuneration will be the normal compensation for a typical day worked, as well as any allowances where applicable. For participation in training that falls on a rostered R&R day, remuneration will be at 7.6 ordinary hours per day. No other allowance will be applicable. For any non-mandatory training, a training bond will apply.
