New Educators. District required training or orientations for new employees held prior to the start of the school year shall be paid at per diem. All new educators in their first year of service will be provided with $800 (includes current professional development funds of $450) for professional development. These funds must be used for classroom materials, professional development, and/or sub costs to provide one (1) release day for professional development, observation or meeting with a mentor.

New Educators. All educators newly employed by the District who have not begun participating in PERS because of the waiting period eligibility requirement shall receive during such period an amount equivalent to the dollar amount “picked up” by the District for an educator on that step who is under PERS until such time as the new educator participates in PERS and is eligible to have contributions “picked up”.

New Educators. Will I get time release as a New Educator (ECTs) under the new Agreement? New educators will maintain current arrangements for BeTTR time, with access to a minimum instructional load time release of two hours per week in year one. In addition to this, the new Agreement will provide a one-hour reduction in instructional load for new educators in their second year of teaching. Are there any changes to the number of PA days I am required to do each year under the new Agreement? No. A review of PA days will be undertaken by an AEU-DOE Workload Reference Group within 12 months of registration. The review will consider best practice use of this time as well as how to ensure consistency across all workplaces. Have any changes been made to the timing of PA days that have been agreed to under the new Agreement? Yes, no staff meetings or professional development/professional learning which is part of PA can extend past 5:00pm. This will come into effect from the start of Term 1 2020. Can other Professional Activities such as school socials, presentation evenings and parent teacher meetings go past 5.00pm?

New Educators. New Hire Transition: An employee hired after the start of the school year shall be given two (2) days of release time in order to move into and become oriented to the school and curriculum. Provide one time allocation of three hundred thirty-eight dollars ($338) as a stipend in September for instructional supplies and materials to all employees who are in their first continuing contract within the profession. These funds would be in addition to the two hundred twenty-five dollars ($225) per elementary employee provided annually through a stipend in September.
