NAS BACKUP – SINGLE CPE. This contingency option allows for Service continuity when failure occurs either on: • The local loop between a User Site and Equant access node; • The TO modem; and • Some elements of the Equant POP; For the remote User Site (secured site), Equant provides a single CE with ISDN connection capability. In case of failure, the CE router automatically detects the unavailability of the access and establishes the ISDN or PSTN backup connection to the nearest Equant’s NAS. The CE then routes the IP traffic through the backup connection. The NAS backup service is based on a IP tunnelling protocol (L2F) that requests configuration of a specific central User Site CE router, chosen by ECMWF, which enables the Concentrated Access Server function (“CAS”) in which the L2F tunnel, established through the dial connection, terminates. For the central User Site access, the CE-CAS router supports both the dial backup traffic from diverse remote User Sites and the traffic to the Network VPN. For the monitoring of the backup, out of band management is provided by Equant. The service offers the following main characteristics:
