Loss of Employment and Seniority Rights. Seniority rights and the employment of an employee will terminate for an employee who: voluntarily resigns his/her employment; is discharged and not reinstated through the grievance procedure; is laid off for a continuous period which exceeds the length of the employee’s recall rights under this Agreement; or fails to return upon termination of an authorized leave of absence, unless arrangements have been agreed to by the Employer, in writing, for an extension of such leave or the employee can show extenuating circumstances prevent the employee from returning.
