Leaves for Personal Reasons. Employees will receive pay for personal leave, as contained in the Employee Handbook and made applicable by NOPFMI, subject to the same conditions and terms and as the Handbook may be revised from time to time at the sole discretion of NOPFMI, and neither administration nor change of such benefit is subject to arbitration.

Leaves for Personal Reasons. An employee desiring a leave of absence from the job because of extraordinary personal or family circumstances must first secure written permission from the Employer. The Employer shall not be expected to grant a leave of absence that will interfere with the Employer's operations. Leaves of absence shall be without pay. During a leave of absence, the employee shall not engage in gainful employment unless the leave is the result of the employee being hired for a position of full-time service with the union. The employee must report to work promptly after the leave has expired. Failure to comply with this Article shall result in the complete loss of seniority rights of the employee involved. Seniority, vacation or other benefits shall not accrue during the leave unless the leave is for thirty (30) days or less.

Such request shall be recorded in a record book. Answer to such request shall be given in writing within seven (7) days after request is made. Time off will be awarded in the order in which the request is made. An employee who accepts gainful occupation while on leave of absence or sick leave, except as provided in Section 1 of this Article, terminates his/her employment with the Company unless otherwise mutually agreed to between the Company and the Union.
