Common use of Leave of Absence for Union Functions Clause in Contracts

Leave of Absence for Union Functions. a) Leave of Absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted to employees, upon two (2) weeks advanced request to the Employer, to attend executive and committee meetings of CUPE, conferences and conventions of CUPE including its affiliated or chartered bodies. Where more than one employee is to be absent, permission from the Employer required. Such permission shall not be unreasonably denied. For administrative purposes, the Employer shall continue to pay the employee’s salary and benefits and the Union shall then compensate the Employer for the salary and benefits paid during leave period.
