LEAD HANDS. A Lead Hand is an employee who temporarily assumes the duties of a supervisor. The Lead Hand rate also applies to members assigned to specific training positions. It is further agreed that such assignments will not include training contractor personnel or supervisory dispatchers or quality control functions. Lead Hands may be required to distribute work and answer questions. They will not be asked to conduct performance appraisals or handle disciplinary matters. Only an employee who desires a Lead Hand opportunity will be considered for the position. The opportunity will be posted in all offices and stations to ensure Local 975 memberships are aware of the volunteer concept. The Company will review the capabilities of those who express an interest Employees agreeing to take a Lead Hand assignment will not be required to change shifts, and other Local 975 employees will not experience shift changes due to someone else being made Lead Hand. The Company will notify the Union of all Lead Hand assignments exceeding one- month (1) duration. For assignments expected to exceed three (3) months in a twelve- month (12) period, the Company and the Union must be in mutual agreement. Training positions will not exceed six months without mutual agreement. LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING #12 RE: TEMPORARY RE-ASSIGNMENT OF C&M EMPLOYEES From time to time the Company is required to perform C&M work outside the hours of the regular day shift. Because it is not practicable at this time to set up new shifts to do this work, the Company requires that employees temporarily change their hours of work so that the work can be completed on a timely and cost effective basis. The Union recognizes the need of its C&M day shift crews on an “as needed” basis, and that for the first eight (8) hours per day of these rearranged hours, employees agreeing to change hours will be paid at straight time. • The Union executive and the involved employee will be given as much notice as possible of the impending schedule change • For the purpose of Article twenty three (23) the re-assigned hours will be considered “regular hours” for the duration of the reassignment. LEAD HANDS. 28.01 Lead Hands may be appointed by the Gallery from time-to-time as the Gallery, in its discretion, deems necessary. Lead Hand responsibilities generally include assigning and monitoring work performance, scheduling, administration and resolving work-related problems. Such persons shall receive an additional one dollar ($ 1.00) per hour for each hour worked for the duration of the appointment. This Lead Hand premium will not form part of the employee's regular straight-time hourly rate.
LEAD HANDS. 35.01 Lead hands will assist in directing work of employees while continuing to perform his own regular job assignment. In the course of his assignment as a lead hand he may also be assigned to perform work regularly done by employees he leads. He shall not assume any of the employee relations supervisory responsibilities that properly belong to xxxxxxx or other management representatives exclusively, such as reprimanding or disciplining employees or deciding who should be promoted or laid off. The Company will determine when or where lead hands are to be assigned when ever required for the efficient operation of the plant. The Company shall post the position of lead hand and shall select a lead hand from the list of applicants, and the most senior applicant will be considered. It is understood that lead hands do not have any preferred seniority within the group. When an employee has been selected and assigned by the Company to perform the duties of lead hand. The employee performing this function, shall during the time assigned, be paid a minimum of fifty cents ($.50) per hour above the highest hourly rated employee in the group he is leading.
LEAD HANDS. It is agreed that there will be a distinction between Lead Hand 1's; 2's and 3's, and there will be a provision for a Lead Hand rate that corresponds with the varying level of responsibility. The following definitions clearly outline what the expectations of an individual will be in each of the 3 levels of Lead Hand. A separate definition is provided for “Student Labour Lead Hands”. Upon ratification of this agreement, current Lead Hands will be categorized according to the work they currently do and/or are expected to do. In some cases, a current Lead Hand may move from a Lead Hand 1 @ 5% to a Lead Hand 2 @ 7% or 3 @ 10%. However it must be recognized that there may be some current Lead Hands who do not fit any of the definitions of Lead Hand (not even the current definition), and will no longer receive the current 5% Lead Hand rate. In those cases, the work performed by the employee will have been outlined in the job evaluation questionnaire, and provided the appropriate recognition through the job evaluation process. It is also recognized that the CUPE Job Evaluation plan automatically awards a “1" under “Supervision” to all members - recognizing that in every job there is an expectation that the employee at any given time, will be expected to “show” others how to do his/her job and “tell” others how to complete a task etc. With this in mind, simply answering a question for another bargaining unit member; part-time employee; student employee, will not necessarily result in a Lead Hand designation. *Bargaining unit members assigned an Apprentice, are not eligible for a Lead Hand rate in addition to his/her regular hourly rate of pay. Each Lead Hand will be provided with a letter confirming their Lead Hand designation and rate, and outlining the duties as defined below. They will also be advised that the Lead Hand rate assigned at this time is subject to change based on the operational requirements of the department.
LEAD HANDS. The Company will provide a minimum of two (2) weeks notice (to both the employee and the Standing Committee) to designate the senior qualified employee in the department into a Lead Hand position or to remove the designation.
LEAD HANDS. A lead hand, designated by the Plant superintendent or his designated representative, will be paid a premium of ten cents ($0.10) per hour over the employee’s job rate and the Company may at its discretion pay in excess of the $0.10 per hour.
LEAD HANDS. 26.01 When an employee is required and assigned by the Company to work as a shift lead hand, he shall receive one dollar ($1.00) per hour worked as a premium above his regular hourly rate. The lead hand premium pay will not be pyramided with overtime premium pay or other premium pay under this Agreement.

LEAD HANDS. When the Company determines that a temporary Lead Hand is required, it will select an employee for the role. Under the direction of a supervisor, a Lead Hand acts as a leader of a group of employees working on similar or related work. He assigns work to the employees as directed by the supervisor and works along with and/or coordinates work among them. The Lead Hand functions as a working leader and not as a staff supervisor and will be paid 2 job classes above his posted hourly rate for all hours worked as a Lead Hand.
LEAD HANDS. The Company may pay a premium of up to thirty cents (30c) per hour for various Lead Hands, if required. Lead Hands Postings: Lead Hand positions shall be job posted and such Lead Hands shall have no rights over and above other employees including preferential seniority or overtime opportunities. Lead Hands shall be subject to all terms of this collective agreement and shall not be involved in the hiring, separation or disciplinary procedures of the Company.
LEAD HANDS. It is recognized that a Lead Hand employee has additional responsibilities of directing the work of a group of employees on other hourly rated production and maintenance jobs and performing some of the same work as that of the group being directed. The direction generally consists of activities such required to: – Plan work to be performed by the group. – Determine “on-the-job” working procedure in the case of repair and maintenance work. – Arrange for necessary tools, supplies and facilities. – Assign and instruct members of the group. – Inspect, coordinate and record the work performed by the group. Such direction does not include activities such as required to: – Hire, promote, demote, harass, suspend or discharge members of the group. – Represent the Company in handling employee grievances. – Determine the schedules of hours, days and weeks during which members of the group shall work. – Perform other generally accepted supervisory functions. It is recognized that the Lead Hand will be paid two (2) job classes higher than the highest job that he/she is leading. It is recognized that Lead Hands are selected exclusively by the Company. The Company and the Union will discuss Lead Hand difficulties. CAMBRIDGE BRASS INC. LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING Re: VOLUNTARY LAYOFF The Company and the Union agree to recognize the need to provide a limited option of Voluntary layoff in addition to those layoff and recall clauses presently contained in the Collective Agreement.
