Lead Assignment. Employees assigned lead duties by the Employer will be paid one dollar and twenty five cents ($1.25) per hour in addition to the contract rate of pay provided for the classifications in the wage schedule. Prior to making the assignment, employees will be given the opportunity to express their interest in the assignment. A lead is one who is assigned lead responsibilities as defined by management but does not have supervisory authority as defined by the Labor Management Relations Act.

Lead Assignment. The Employer may temporarily assign an employee lead responsibilities to provide specific training or supervisory tasks as assigned by such employee’s supervisor. Such employee shall be compensated the lead premium rate (Article 8.6), in addition to the employee’s regular rate pay, for all time worked while assigned lead responsibilities. The employee shall not be compensated for facility/department orientation including: activities designed to familiarize new employees with the objectives and philosophy of the facility and department services; orientation of new employees to facility/departmental policies and procedures; instructing new employees as to their functions and responsibilities to enable them to work independently. This Section shall not apply to employees listed in Appendix D.

Lead pay will be paid to an employee for any period during which the employee is assigned substantially all lead duties in the absence of the regularly assigned lead.

Lead Assignment. Non-supervisory employees (employees whose classification or paygrade description does not include supervisory duties) who are designated and assigned by management to act as lead workers over other employees in the same classification or paygrade, either on a regularly assigned or on a daily basis, shall receive compensation at the second premium level rate above the appropriate step of the salary range prescribed for the class, while so assigned. The designation, redesignation or removal of a lead assignment shall be a management prerogative and may occur any time management deems it appropriate. Such management decisions shall be final and conclusive and shall not be subject to the grievance procedure herein. Nothing in this Section, however, is intended to deny the premium payment specified herein to an employee who has been assigned, has qualified and has performed the lead assignment in accordance with the provisions of this Article.
