Labourers. The Labourers shall not perform work usually carried out by electricians. They may be employed to dig trenches, handle ladders, scaffolding etc., and assist electricians laying heavy cables. They shall not help electricians running conduit, casing, cables, etc., or in any way, in regard to Rule 12, take the place of an apprentice.

Labourers. Labourers may only be used strictly for labouring work i.e. digging trenches and carrying material. All installation work will be carried out by journeypersons or apprentices. Any work beyond the above must be agreed to by the Union. The Labourer pension contribution is equal to that of a 2nd year apprentice. The hourly rate is 56% of the average journeyperson rate as shown at the bottom of the grid. Students Students are employees covered by the Collective Agreement and are enrolled full time in high school or college and may be hired for a maximum of four months during a school break term. The Students are paid 4% vacation pay. Students are paid holiday pay for the holidays listed in Article 10, using the formula to comply with the E.S.A. The vacation and holiday pay is paid directly to the student rather than via the Union fund. Pension and health fund contributions are not required on behalf of students, however, if employed beyond four months from date of hire these payments become retroactive to the date of hire, and the “student” status is no longer applicable. The student rate is equal to that of a 1st year apprentice rate.
