HOLIDAYS DEFINED. 1. Paid holidays shall be: January 1 New Year’s Day Third Monday in January Xx. Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxx, Xx., Day February 12th Xxxxxxx's Birthday Third Monday in February Washington's Birthday Last Monday in May Memorial Day July 4th Independence Day First Monday in September Labor Day September 9th Admission Day Second Monday in October Columbus Day November 11th Veterans' Day Fourth Thursday in November Thanksgiving Day Day after Thanksgiving Day December 25th Christmas Day All other days appointed by the President of the United States or the Governor of the State of California as a nation-wide or state-wide public holiday, day of fast, day of mourning, or day of thanksgiving, provided that observance of the day as a paid holiday is approved in writing by three or more members of the Board of Supervisors. Two (2) floating holidays are to be scheduled by mutual agreement of the employee and his/her Agency/Department Head and taken within the calendar year. Employees hired on or after July 1 of each year will not be entitled to the floating holiday(s) for the calendar year in which they were hired. 2. Effective January 1, 2003, paid holidays shall be defined as follows, except as defined in subsection 8.A.3. below: January 1 New Year’s Day Third Monday in January Xx. Employees who are appointed to the General Services Agency and Public Works Agency after January 1, 2003, and who are in units regularly assigned to cover shifts seven (7) days a week, twenty-four (24) hours a day, shall receive holidays as specified in subsection 8.A.2.

Four (4) Effective July 1, 2001, four floating holidays are to be scheduled by mutual agreement of the employee and his/her Agency/Department Head department and taken within the calendar fiscal year. The first four full days (7.5 or 8 hours) of vacation or compensatory time taken during each fiscal year shall be charged as floating holidays. Employees shall have the primary responsibility to schedule and take their floating holidays. Employees hired prior on or after April 1st of any fiscal year are not eligible to July 1 of each year shall be entitled to receive the floating holiday(s). Employees hired after July 1 will not be entitled to the floating holiday(s) for the calendar year holiday in which they were hiredthat fiscal year. 3.
