Higher Duties Allowance. 10.3.1 A higher duties allowance shall be paid to an employee who, at the request of the employer is substantially performing the duties and carrying the responsibilities of a position or grade higher than the employee’s own.

Higher Duties Allowance. 1. A permanent employee who relieves in a position on a higher salary scale shall be paid an allowance at the rate representing the difference between the employee's current salary and the rate which would be payable to the employee if permanently appointed to that position. This is subject to the employee carrying out the full duties and responsibilities for a minimum qualifying period of five consecutive working days and subject to such conditions as the employer may approve. Payment of the allowance will be backdated to include the previous five days. These conditions must be met on each occasion that the higher duties are performed.
Higher Duties Allowance. (a) An employee who is appointed to perform temporarily all of the duties of a higher classified position and who performs all such duties required to be performed during the appointment will be paid an allowance equal to the difference between their substantive salary and the minimum salary of the higher classified position for all the time during which the employee performs such duties. Where it is specified at the commencement of the higher duties allowance that the employee is to undertake part of the duties of the higher position only, a lesser amount, which will normally be a percentage of the full amount, will be paid.

The employer shall approve payment of a higher duties allowance to an employee who is required to undertake the full duties and responsibilities of a higher graded position during the temporary absence of the occupant of that position, and who competently discharges those higher duties. Payment at a lesser rate shall be approved for an employee who is required to undertake only some of the duties and responsibilities of positions at a higher level.
