Geotechnical Engineering. The Design Professional shall, during the Schematic Design Phase, submit to the Owner a statement of necessary geotechnical or soils engineering services that will be required. If the Design Professional does not believe the services of a Geotechnical Engineer are required for the project, a written notice of such shall be provided to the Owner stating same. Geotechnical engineering and any necessary surveys shall be Owner-provided, an Additional Service or a reimbursable expense.
Geotechnical Engineering. 1. Perform a geotechnical analysis of the alignment utilizing a qualified geotechnical laboratory to determine subsurface conditions and make recommendations regarding design parameters. The analysis shall include the following:
Geotechnical Engineering. ENGINEER will take soil borings and perform geotechnical work for the water treatment plant site in areas of proposed new structures and buildings. Eight (8) borings will be taken on the WTP site. Laboratory analyses will be prepared on the soil samples. A geotechnical report will be prepared to include the results of the analyses and geotechnical recommendations for the design of foundations for the proposed structures. Geotechnical Engineering. Stantec will use Terracon as our subconsultant for geotechnical engineering. The field exploration consists of borings at 26 locations – four (4) for the bridges using the standard penetration test (SPT) at a dept of 75 to 100 feet and 22 for the roadway using a hand auger at a depth of five (5) feet or auger refusal. Handheld GPS equipment will be used to locate borings with an estimated horizontal accuracy of +/-20 feet. Field measurements from existing site features may be utilized. If available, approximate elevations will be obtained by interpolation from a site specific, surveyed topographic map. Soil borings will be advanced with a track-mounted drill rig using mud rotary drilling techniques. Five samples will be obtained in the upper 10 feet of each boring and at intervals of 5 feet thereafter. Soil sampling is typically performed using thin-wall tube and/or split-barrel sampling procedures. The split-barrel samplers are driven in accordance with the SPT. The samples will be placed in appropriate containers, taken to the soil laboratory for testing, and classified by a Geotechnical Engineer. In addition, groundwater levels during drilling and sampling will be observed and recorded. Field boring logs will be prepared as part of standard drilling operations including sampling depths, penetration distances, and other relevant sampling information. Field logs include visual classifications of materials encountered during drilling, and our interpretation of subsurface conditions between samples. Final boring logs, prepared from field logs, represent the Geotechnical Engineer's interpretation, and include modifications based on observations and laboratory tests. Hand Auger (HA) Borings are conducted in general accordance with ASTM D 1452-80, Standard Practice for Soil Investigation and Sampling by Auger Borings. In this test, hand auger borings are drilled by rotating and advancing a bucket auger to the desired depths while periodically removing the auger from the hole to clear and examine the auger cuttings. The soils are classified in accordance with ASTM D2488. The borings will be backfilled with auger cuttings upon completion. This does not include repair of the site beyond backfilling the boreholes. Excess auger cuttings will be dispersed in the general vicinity of the borehole. Because backfill material often settles below the surface after a period, we recommend boreholes to be periodically checked and backfilled, if necessary. The field data will...
Geotechnical Engineering. Consultant shall provide Geotechnical Engineering services for City projects during earthwork construction operations that the City Engineer determines are necessary to meet finished grades shown on the plans and cross sections. Consultant shall provide Geotechnical Engineering observation during site preparation for placement of fill and construction of sub-drainage systems. Consultant shall make recommendations regarding the removal of unsuitable materials for fills and methods of compaction based upon previous geotechnical investigations and Consultant’s own observations. For tests results that failed, Consultant shall provide analysis of the failure and a recommendation of possible solutions in a signed &stamped report to the City. On tests that passed, Consultant shall state so in the signed and stamped report provided to the City. Said reports shall include the appropriate specifications next to the test results.

Geotechnical Engineering. The services of a geotechnical engineering firm will be retained by the CONTRACTOR (see SC-06). A representative of the geotechnical engineer shall be present at the site to observe site grading, trenching and backfilling work, and other work, and to take field density tests. Also, the geotechnical engineer will perform laboratory testing of CONTRACTOR-submitted soils to determine their acceptability for use as base course, subbase and fill materials. The geotechnical engineer shall also perform compaction tests for embankments, subbase, base course and trench and structural backfill. The Geotechnical Engineer’s authority shall be as described in DHHL Construction General Conditions, Section 5.4 (March 2014). The CONTRACTOR shall request compaction tests a minimum of 48-hours in advance. Sufficient time shall be allotted to perform field and laboratory tests prior to the placement of material. Resultant delays shall be governed by Section 7.21 of the DHHL Construction General Conditions (March 2014). The CONTRACTOR shall be held responsible for the following geotechnical testing costs:
Geotechnical Engineering. The A-E will conduct a geotechnical exploration program to evaluate, as well as supplement data, on geotechnical/geologic conditions within the project area to support the grading and liner design plan. The exploration will include geologic mapping, a limited trenching and boring program, laboratory testing, and slope stability analyses. If necessary, a supplemental field exploration will be performed for geologic and geotechnical characterization of the area to design any landslide mitigation measures, such as a soil buttress.
