Common use of Full-Time Union Leave Clause in Contracts

Full-Time Union Leave. Upon application by the Union, in writing, the Hospital will give reasonable consideration to a request for leave of absence, without pay, to an employee elected or appointed to a full-time Union office. It is understood that not more than one (1) employee in the bargaining unit may be on such leave at the same time. Such leave, if granted, shall be for a period of one (1) calendar year from the date of appointment unless extended for a further specific period by agreement of the parties. During such leave of absence seniority shall accumulate on the basis of what his/her normal regular hours of work would have been. Seniority shall accumulate for an employee during such leave to the maximum provided if any under the provisions of the Collective Agreement. In addition, during such leave of absence, the employee’s salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital on the basis of what his normal regular hours of work would have been, provided that the Union reimburses the Hospital in the amount of such salary and applicable benefits within thirty (30) days of billing.
