Common use of Formal Counseling Clause in Contracts

Formal Counseling. The employee and the immediate supervisor meet to develop a work plan for the employee to improve performance. The supervisor will set a timeline for improvement and write a memo to the employee summarizing the meeting including the specific plan and timeline. All written documentation of performance issues shall remain in the employee file to insure that a complete record of the employee’s performance and progress is maintained. If there is insufficient improvement in performance after a reasonable amount of time, the Employer may proceed to Step 3.
