Fire Battalion Chief. The parties’ acknowledge that the State Fire Marshal’s Office changed their certification program such that the Fire Officer and Chief Officer certifications were retired effective December 31, 2016. Employees who were eligible for education pay as a Fire Officer and/or Chief Officer as a result of attaining such certification(s) before January 1, 2017 will continue to be eligible for 2.75% education pay for each certification. After January 1, 2017, any employee certified by the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a Company Officer and/or Chief Fire Officer will be eligible for 2.75% education pay for each certification. Fire Battalion Chiefs will not receive any education pay for the possession of an Associate’s Degree. Prior approval for this educational training shall be granted by the Fire Chief. No employee shall receive more than 5.5% in education pays for education and fire service training. The parties agree that to the extent permitted by law, the education pays provided above are special compensation and shall be reported as such pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(2) Educational Incentive Pay.

Fire Battalion Chief. 1. The base salary of the classification of Fire Battalion Chief shall be at least seventeen and five-tenths percent (17.5%) higher than the base salary of the top step of the salary range for Fire Captain.
Fire Battalion Chief. Promotion to the rank of Fire Battalion Chief shall be open to all members of the Department at the rank of Fire Captain who has continuously held, for at least two years, a position at the next lower classification; completed all the requirements for the rank of Fire Captain; completed the Fire Battalion Chief Task Book (task book requirement effective October 1, 2025).
