Filling of Vacancy. ‌ Insofar as practicable and consistent with the best interests of the service, all vacancies in the competitive service shall be filled by promotion from within the competitive service, after a promotional examination has been given and a promotion list established. Consistent with City of Berkeley Personnel Rules, each candidate for promotion must be either a permanent employee in the competitive service or a former permanent employee on an active mandatory layoff Reemployment List and must possess the minimum qualifications as set forth in the specifications of the class to which promotion is sought. The right to compete in a promotional examination in a specific classification series is not limited to employees in the bargaining unit.
Filling of Vacancy. The qualified senior nurse within a defined nursing unit who applies for the vacancy in the first seven (7) days of posting will be offered the position, provided that such nurse has the required skill and ability to perform the position at the time such position is assumed. If no nurse within the relevant defined nursing unit is qualified for or bids on the position, the Hospital will offer the position to the most senior qualified nurse within the Hospital who applies for the position in the first seven (7) days of posting.

Filling of Vacancy. Step 1 In the event of a vacancy occurring during the school year, the DISTRICT will post a vacancy notice on employee bulletin boards for five (5) work days. A laid-off employee in recall status will be notified by e-mail of any new vacancies.
