Extension of Leaves. 23 39.3.1 A certificated employee may request and may be approved for an extension 24 of the leave of absence up to a period of one (1) year, upon notifying the 25 District by letter on or before April 1. No combination of leaves and 26 extensions shall exceed two (2) consecutive years, except if the leave begins 27 in the third trimester of the school year, in which case the leave cannot 28 exceed the two (2) consecutive school years following the end of the school 29 year when the leave started. It will not, for example, be possible for a 1.0 30 FTE certificated staff to take a 0.5 leave of absence for one (1) year, ask for 31 a one (1) year extension, then return 0.5, then take a one (1) year leave of 32 absence on the other 0.5 and then ask for a one (1) year extension of that 33 leave.
