Compulsory Leave a. If the University President believes an employee is unable to perform assigned duties due to illness or injury, the President shall inform the employee in writing of the basis for the President's belief and may require the employee to obtain a medical examination by a doctor chosen and paid for by the University or by a doctor chosen and paid for by the employee who is acceptable to the University. Refusal of an employee to submit to a medical examination may result in suspension of the employee or other disciplinary action. Extension of Leave 5 If an extension of the leave is required, a request for the extension must be 6 submitted in writing at least five (5) days in advance of the leave expiration 7 or as soon as practical. Consideration of an extension will be based on the 8 same criteria as the original request. Failure to return to work at the 9 expiration of the leave may result in termination.
Jury Leave In keeping with the policy that an employee not suffer a loss of pay while serving as a juror, the remuneration to be received by the employee on any working day the employee reports for or serves on jury duty shall be regular rate of pay for the day less jury duty fees receivable for that day.
Extension of Probationary Period The probationary period shall not be extended except in the case of extended illness or injury or compelling personal situation during which time the employee was unable to work. In such cases, the probationary period may be extended for the length of time the ill or injured employee was unable to work.
Statutory Leave This article recognizes the statutory obligations of the University and the Union to provide unpaid leaves to employees for situations not described in any other provision of the Collective Agreement. Examples of such Statutory Leaves include: • Family Responsibility Leave; • Reservist Leave;
