Extended Illness. Any employee who is absent for a continuous prolonged period of time because of serious illness or disability (which is not compensable under Worker’s Compensation) and who has exhausted his/her sick leave, and who intends to accept the benefits of the salary continuance insurance program (i.e. long term disability program), may appeal to the Superintendent for an extension of sick leave benefits. Such additional benefits shall not exceed sixty (60) days. All such absences are subject to verification by a licensed physician designated by the Employer.
