Environmental and Social Assessment. According to UNIDO Environmental and Social Safeguards Policy and Procedures (ESSPP) rolled out for all UNIDO projects since February 2019, an Environmental and Social Risks Screening was conducted which resulted in the project classification under Category C. It is considered that the project is likely to have minimal or no adverse social and/or environmental impacts at this stage where the aim is to assess the innovation cluster feasibility in the targeted sectors. No further specific environmental and/or social assessment is required during project formulation, although any procurement components may still have potential environmental and social sustainability considerations. These should be addressed as part of the regular project design activities and through UNIDO’s procurement processes, as applicable. Additionally, the feasibility study will include an analysis on the potential environmental and social risks associated with each of the business options considered to inform the cluster development strategy that will be proposed. The cluster design will allow the creation of new job opportunities for participating countries through technology and knowledge transfer. The use of industry 4.0 technologies implicates high skills and new business development for both countries to enhance their competitiveness on the global market. Strengthening linkages within this sectorial cluster broaden the understanding of research actors in addressing the rising diversified needs of industry and consequently the consumers, so the proposed approach also is expected to positively impact on social benefits for Cuban and Slovenian people and other worldwide consumers in general.
Environmental and Social Assessment. The objective of this project is to promote innovation ecosystem building as well as to raise awareness on the opportunities and challenges of the 4IR. As per UNIDO Environmental and Social Safeguards Policies and Procedures (ESSPP), the Environmental and Social screening template has been completed and this project has been categorized as “C''. Although no further specific environmental and/or social assessment is required for category C projects, environmental and social aspects will be duly considered in all the training and capacity building activities.
