Entitlement to unpaid leave. Leave for up to two (2) consecutive years may be granted at the discretion of the Board for professional purposes and shall be granted for purposes of illness or disability as per ORC 3319.13. An employee seeking unpaid leave for purposes of illness or disability must agree to provide verification that such leave is recommended by a physician. It is understood that no employee shall have a right to such unpaid leave for sporadic or short term absences, whether or not based upon illness (unless qualified under appropriate FMLA leave). For example, unpaid leave may or may not be granted for non-FMLA qualifying absence to extend the employment of an employee where such employee has exhausted all accumulated and/or advanced sick leave, unless the request is for long term unpaid leave and based upon legitimate medical reasons.
Entitlement to unpaid leave. 1. All full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, who have completed their probationary period, shall be granted no more than two (2) unpaid leaves of absence during any one calendar year. The sum of the leave(s) shall not exceed a total of twelve (12) months in any three (3) calendar year period. The unpaid leave of absence shall be requested through the employee's immediate supervisor. The leave may be requested for any personal reason of the employee. The Board may grant an additional year for purposes of education, training or specialized experiences related to the employee’s employment.

  • Unpaid Leave 6. Accrued compensatory time off may be used at the employee’s discretion, with management approval, after exhaustion of 100% sick leave (No. 3 above). However, FLSA compensatory time off shall not be counted against the employee’s four (4) month (nine [9] pay period [720 hours]) family or medical leave entitlement. Therefore, any use of FLSA compensatory time off under this Section shall extend the employee’s family or medical leave by the total amount of FLSA compensatory time off used.
