Full time and part time employees shall be entitled to a full or pro rata day at ordinary rate of pay as a result of a gazetted South Australian Public Holiday fall on the employee’s ordinary working day. Absence arising by termination of employment by the employee shall not be a reasonable cause.

A Part Time or Full Time employee who works on Christmas Day when it falls on a weekend must be paid an additional loading of 50% of their ordinary time rate for the hours worked on that day and will also be entitled to the benefit of a substitute day. For example, if Christmas Day falls on a Sunday the employee must be paid 2.25 times the ordinary rate (comprising 1.75 for the Sunday penalty rate plus the additional 50% loading) multiplied by the hours worked that day.
