Encapsulation. Any covering or coating that acts as a barrier between LBP and the environment, the durability of which relies on adhesion and the integrity of the existing bonds between multiple layers of paint and between the paint and the substrate. See also “Enclosure.”
Encapsulation. The application of an encapsulant to control the release of asbestos fibers into the air.
Encapsulation. Encapsulations are the second alternative that will be tested at the validation site as benchmark to the spiral coil heat exchanger; here both technical performance comparison and economic evaluation will be conducted. However, the special encapsulation designs proposed in the previous H2020 PUMP-HEAT Deliverable D3.4 require specific manufacturing and production procedures as no currently commercially available product is available. Hence, two solutions were at our disposition: 3-D printing of the exact design geometry or procurement of commercially available capsules similar to the proposed design dimensions. 3D printing can prove to be a time-consuming process and the material compatibility of PCM as well as the softening of the printing material. For example, Polylactic Acid (PLA), may be a concern without long term testing if no other printing material is to be used. On the other hand, commercially available products with designs similar to the ones proposed such as the HeatStixx and HeatSel (Axiotherm, 2019) have been selected, see Figure 3-5. Furthermore, the design enables the entire encapsulated PCMs to be involved in the phase change process. This commercial product is to be tested on the lab validation site.
Encapsulation. A specified procedure necessary to coat ACMs or asbestos contaminated surfaces with an encapsulant to control the possible release of asbestos fibers into the ambient air.
