Below is a table that summarizes the effective date and resulting pay when an employee’s position is reclassified to job classification within a higher pay grade, the same pay grade, or a lower pay grade. Reclassification to Effective Date Pay Upon Reclassification Higher pay grade Start of the pay period following receipt of the completed reclassification request form at the Human Resources Division. 1st Step of the pay range of the new classification or the step that is at least 5% above the former rate of pay, whichever is greater. Additional discretionary steps may not be awarded. Pay may not exceed Step 10, unless the employee is already receiving merit-over-top. If pay includes merit-over-top, pay is calculated using the merit-over-top amount and may result in merit-over-top upon reclassification. Same pay grade Start of the pay period following receipt of the completed reclassification request form at the Human Resources Division. The step of the pay range which is closest to and not less than the step that the employee received before the reclassification. Pay may not exceed Step 10, unless the employee is already receiving merit-over-top. If pay includes merit-over-top, the employee will continue to receive merit-over-top. Lower pay grade Start of pay period at least thirty (30) calendar days after notification of the classification determination from the Human Resources Division. Highest step in the new pay range that does not exceed the current pay rate. If pay includes merit-over-top, pay is calculated using the merit-over-top amount and may result in merit-over-top upon reclassification.
