Educational. The Appointing Authority may approve an individual employee’s written request for full-time educational leave of absence for an initial period of time up to one (1) year. Such request will be answered in writing within thirty (30) calendar days stating approval or denial (with an explanation). Before the approved leave of absence can become finally effective, a curriculum plan and proof of full-time enrollment must be submitted by the employee to the Appointing Authority. At the request of the Appointing Authority, the employee shall provide evidence of continuous, successful full-time enrollment in such curriculum plan in order to remain on or renew such leave. Such education shall be directly related to the employee’s field of employment. Such employee may return early from such a leave upon approval by the Appointing Authority.
Educational. A. Fire Fighters holding certain Associates, Bachelors, or Masters degrees shall receive educational incentive pay. The degrees shall be from an accredited learning institution of higher education recognized by the State Board of Education in the State in which the college resides and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools or a similar accrediting organization recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Educational. A) To be eligible for an educational leave, a bargaining unit member must meet the following conditions:
Educational. An employee who has been employed by the Employer for a period of two (2) years (4160 hours of continuous employment) or more may be granted an unpaid educational leave of absence totaling up to twenty-four (24) months. Any extension of an educational leave of absence shall be at the discretion of the Employer. In order to qualify for such leave, the employee must be a full-time student at a college or university working toward a degree having reasonable relation to their current employment. If the leave is for three (3) calendar months or less, an employee will retain his/her right to his/her previous position. If the leave is in excess of three (3) calendar months, the Employer may permanently fill the employee's position, provided, however, the employee shall be allowed to exercise seniority rights to bid for the next available job opening.
