Drugs, Alcohol and Theft. This will confirm discussions held during negotiations for the Collective Agreement whereby the Company explained its concerns about drug and alcohol abuse in the plant as well as theft from employees and the Company. The Company therefore intends to exercise its rights to conduct random or general inspection of lockers, lunch pails or packages that is deemed appropriate to uncover drugs or alcohol abuse or theft. Yours very truly, Personnel Manager Xxxxx, President, United Steelworkers of America, Local Concession Street, Kingston, Ontario Dear Xxxxx: RE: TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE I write to confirm an agreement reached during negotiations for the renewal of our Collective Agreement whereby the Company agreed to take certain steps to assist the Union and employees as a result of the introduction of technological change. The parties agreed that technological change shall defined as automation as the result of investment in equipment of such a nature as to adversely affect ten (10) or more of the employees in the bargaining unit through lay-off or demotion from their present job classifications or devaluation of their job classifications. In the event of a proposed introduction of technological change the Company will give the Union and employees directly affected by such change at least four (4) weeks notice of the change. In order to assist employees to properly adapt to the technological change, the Company agrees, whenever practicable, to introduce training programs to be conducted by Company personnel or outside consultants. Such training shall be offered initially to those employees directly affected by the technological change. The parties agree that a trial period may be necessary to assess and observe the practicability of the technological change and that therefore, persons outside of the bargaining unit may be utilized during this period. As the new equipment becomes operational the involved will be re-evaluated without delay and the Company will make any new effective to the date equipment is and operational. Employees whose jobs are directly modified or eliminated as the result of the introduction of technological change shall be guaranteed their current rate of pay in any new job for a period of thirty-two (32) weeks notwithstanding their demotion or transfer to a lesser paying job.   • DRUGS & ALCOHOL Any incidents concerning drugs and/or alcohol shall be dealt with in accordance with the policy of the Building Industry Group Drug and Alcohol Safety and Rehabilitation Program as detailed in Appendix D of this Agreement.
