Definition of Workweek. The workweek for fulltime unit members shall be forty (40) hours and shall consist of not more than five (5) consecutive days. Persons employed less than full time may be assigned a flex schedule. The traditional workweek shall be Monday through Friday. A non-traditional workweek may begin on any day other than Monday and shall not exceed five (5) consecutive workdays.

In addition to its right to change any employee’s work schedule as otherwise provided in this Agreement, the City may change any individual employee’s work schedule in exigent or emergency situations. The determination as to when an exigent or emergency situation exists shall be made by the City, but the City must be reasonable in exercising its discretion in that regard. Any employee who is absent from a given shift and who has accrued, unused paid leave (e.g., vacation leave, floating holiday, sick leave, compensatory time) shall be required to use such paid leave with respect to that absence, but this requirement shall not apply to an absence resulting from the employee serving a disciplinary suspension. The City shall not incur an overtime obligation if it has to change a covered member’s shift to cover for the covered member who has been required to use such paid leave.

As of January 1, 2014, the Xxxxx System work schedule shall remain intact for the non‐Patrol covered members, however the Patrol covered members, will enter into a one (1) year trial period of a “Modified 4‐ 2” schedule. During the one (1) year trial period, the “Modified 4‐2” schedule can revert to the Xxxxx System (and all pre‐“Modified 4‐2” schedule changes including but not limited to floating holiday time) for Patrol at any time with thirty (30) days’ notice from either party. In good faith both parties have agreed to try the “Modified 4‐2” schedule during calendar year 2014 and openly discuss any issues that arise with either party in an effort to retain the “Modified 4‐2” schedule. The “Modified 4‐2” schedule results in varying work hours, however the City shall pay all Patrol covered members on such schedule for 80 regular hours per pay period as long as the scheduled days are worked in full. As this situation results in an overpayment of hours each calendar year, the City has agreed that there will be no “give back hours” as a result of this arrangement. Definition of Workweek. 1. The normal work schedule for the Patrol Bureau shall be four (4) eight-hour days on duty followed by two (2) days rest.
