Definition of Casual Employee - Casual. An employee who does not hold a regular position and works on an incidental or temporary basis for the purpose of assisting with peak workload periods, vacations, sickness, floaters and leaves of absence. A casual employee’s date of hire will also be used for job posting purposes. Peak workload period is defined as work of a project nature or work that is not regularly performed on an ongoing basis.
