Death Leave. A maximum of five (5) days per school year will be allowed for death in the immediate family. Immediate family to be interpreted as husband, wife, children, mother, father, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, step- parents, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law. In the event of a death which is not defined above, a leave of absence may be granted, upon request, by the Superintendent at his discretion.

Death Leave. 27.1 Up to three days shall be allowed an officer without deduction in pay by reason of the death of a member of the officer’s immediate family. With the approval of the Chief of Police or the Chief’s designee, an additional three days leave with no deduction in pay may be allowed for necessary funeral travel time. If the death is of the officer’s spouse or child, the Chief shall have the discretion to approve up to a total of thirty (30) days of paid death leave, including the leave described elsewhere in this article. The Chief’s decision shall be final, and shall not be subject to the grievance procedure.

Death Leave. Leave of a maximum of four (4) calendar days per occurrence shall be granted in case of death in the immediate family, and this shall not be deducted from accrued leave time. Immediate family shall be defined as mother, father, stepfather, stepmother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brothers, sisters, husband or wife, children of employee, step-children, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Days off must be within consecutive working days, provided, however, that one such day shall be the day of the funeral and it is established that the employee attended the funeral. Advance notification of the leave must be provided to the superintendent. Requests for additional family members may be granted by the Superintendent.
